Te Whare Okioki Hut
The place
Serviced hut with 12 bunks in the Kaimai-Mamaku Conservation Park (Bay of Plenty / Waikato, North Island, New Zealand). "Te Whare Okioki" means "The resting place". Built in 2019 by volunteer hunter-trampers from the Kaimai Ridgeway Trust, who maintain it. Original construction in aerated concrete to reduce fire risk. Large covered deck, wood stove, solar lighting. Located on the site of the former Ngamuwahine clearing and shelter, on the North South Track, 1 h south of the Te Tuhi / Ngamarama / North South track junction. Central position in the Kaimai Range, between 3 and 6 h from any of the seven southern entry points. 5000 L water tank, sink on the deck, outdoor taps and picnic tables, real toilets. Outdoor camping possible. Online booking required.
