The place

Standard 6-bunk hut in the Te Urewera area (East Coast / Bay of Plenty, North Island, New Zealand). Built in 1952 "directly in the bush" by Forest Service legend Rex Forrester, as part of the same project that produced Te Totara. An old split-plank building of raw native timber, hand-split on the inside, later clad in standard corrugated iron to keep out water, rats and flies.
