Te Rangaakapua Hut

The place

Backcountry hut situated at 1290 m in Te Urewera (Hawke's Bay), at more than 1,300 m altitude according to some sources. Small three-bunk shelter with a large bench, a Kent stove and an abundant wood supply. Check before setting out: Te Uru Taumatua (the operational body of Ngāi Tūhoe) began the phased withdrawal of 44 huts from Te Urewera in October 2022, and DOC now redirects to this shared inventory.
