On the banks of the scenic Mohaka River: swimming, trout fishing, spotting the rare blue duck / whio. Very comfortable: 26 bunk beds, gas heating and cooking, running water from a rainwater tank (untreated). Mattresses, non-flush toilets. 8 km from the car park — 2 to 3 hours' walk. Makahu Road can be closed after heavy rain. From the hut, a ~45-minute walk west leads to the Mangatainoka Hot Springs for a soak.
