Standard hut at about 276 m in the rugged Te Urewera forest (Bay of Plenty, North Island, New Zealand) — not Raukumara as one might assume. 8 bunks in a basic shelter, heated by an open fire and simple heating. Co-governance by Te Uru Taumatua (Ngāi Tūhoe) with DOC support. Located along the Whakatāne River walking route, accessible after a ridge climb from the Ohane Stream. NB: in 2022 Te Uru Taumatua began the removal of 44 backcountry huts across Te Urewera — check current status with the DOC or Ngāi Tūhoe before planning a visit.
