The place
A former DOC hut in Te Urewera (East Coast, NZ), at 227 m. Dismantled by Te Uru Taumatua / Ngāi Tūhoe as part of the phased withdrawal of DOC huts begun in 2022. Camping is still possible on site but without toilets or a water source. Self-sufficient bivouac recommended.
