The place

Free Metsähallitus autiotupa located on the east bank of Juutinniva in Urho Kekkonen National Park, Sodankylä municipality in Finnish Lapland. The hut takes its name from a former construction-site building built for the Luirojoki dam, kept after the works and turned into a hut with the creation of the national park. First reception point for hikers coming from Loka, most easily reached by canoe on the Luirojoki. Shared hut, open, free, no booking: stay limited to one or two nights under the general autiotupa rules. Considered a demanding destination: remoteness, self-navigation, arctic weather.
