The place
Free-access autiotupa on the bank of the Oulankajoki, on the Karhunkierros trail (9 km north of the Oulanka nature centre, Kuusamo, Pohjois-Pohjanmaa). Built in the early 1900s as a pitch-making cabin (hartsupirtti). Two-storey building, ten to fifteen beds, fireplace heating. Dry toilets on site.

Getting there
The Taivalköngäs rapids are right next to it, crossed by a suspension bridge. The rapids form three parallel channels separated by two wooded islands linked by maintained suspension bridges.
