Suolistaipale

The place

Free Metsähallitus autiotupa at Suolistaipale, in the Vätsäri wilderness area (north-eastern end of Lake Inari, near Nellim, Inari municipality, Lapland). Northern Sámi name Čuolismyetki. The site includes an autiotupa, a kota, and a boat mooring point, located on traditional routes used since the 1920s by travellers on the lake. Log-built architecture typical of Lapland. Suolistaipale was historically used for transport towards Ruija (Norwegian Finnmark) and retains a portage site. Free stopover, no booking required, under the autiotupa system.
