The place

Free wilderness hut (autiotupa) operated by Metsähallitus in the Muotkatunturit Wilderness Area ("the wildest of Finland's wilderness areas"), between Inari and Utsjoki in northern Lapland. Sami names Stuorrávži / Stuorraávzi. Capacity 7 beds, a stove for heating, a separate gas stove for cooking. An area without marked trails and with only a handful of huts — a committing destination for self-sufficient hikers. Free stopover, no booking, maximum 1-2 nights under the autiotupa regime.
