The place

Hunting and fishing cabin of Fjellstyra på Hardangervidda, at the southern end of Lake Store Meinsvatn on the Hardangervidda plateau, Rauland side. A 35 m² building sleeping eight, equipped with solar panels, a propane kitchen, and firewood. Also includes an office for the ranger. Operates on a free-access basis — the cabin is never full — with self check-in and payment via Vipps (114646) after the stay: NOK 150 for locals, NOK 300 for others, free for under-16s. Since 2023 the Fjellstyret cabins have been closed in winter to protect wild reindeer; open only during the summer season and the autumn hunt. Access from the Trolldalsdammen car park, 1 h 30 to 4 h on foot.
