The place
Stony Stream Hut in Lewis Pass National Reserve, Springs Junction/Maruia sector (Nelson/Canterbury/West Coast border, South Island, New Zealand), at 791 m elevation, 907 m trans-alpine pass. Continuous Marlborough/Nelson cluster (batches 246-320). A DOC hut on the St James Walkway (66 km, heritage of St James Station, the largest high-country station in NZ at 78,000 ha, bought in 2008 by the Ngāti Waewae Māori Nation), an area of primary Nothofagus solandri beech forest.
