Sterzinger Hütte - Rif. Vipiteno
The place
Alpine hut located at 2344 m in the upper Burgumer Tal, at the foot of the Picco della Croce (Wilde Kreuzspitze, 3132 m), in the Monti di Fùndres / Pfunderer Berge between the Stubai and Zillertal (South Tyrol, Italy). Built in 1890 by the AVS Vipiteno section, abandoned after the Second World War and left to fall into ruin, rebuilt in 1980 by AVS Vipiteno. Capacity of 20 beds in the main room and 8 spaces in the winter room. Open from 1 July to 30 September. Access from Bargone (Val di Vizze) via the Burgum path in 2 h 45. Note: the hut has officially been closed since 2008; its current status should be checked with the AVS Vipiteno section before any visit. An exceptional setting in the Zillertal Alps at the foot of an emblematic South Tyrolean "3000er" peak.
