The place

4-bunk cabin on the true right bank of the mid-course of the true left branch of the Spoon River, in South Westland (west coast, South Island, New Zealand). The Spoon River flows between the Hope River to the north and the Gorge River to the south. Structure: treated timber frame and floor, corrugated-iron cladding, tarpaulin interior lining. Corrugated-iron roof with heavy leaks: interior very damp. Very lightly visited — hut-book entries over six years don't even fill a page (4 non-DOC entries in six years). Cabin on stewardship land, access only for experienced hikers and hunters on unmarked tracks.
