The place

Spitzmeilenhütte SAC at 2087 m, a hut of the Piz Sol section of the Swiss Alpine Club SAC, commune of Flums (canton of St. Gallen, Switzerland). Above Flumserberg, in the Glarus Alps, south of the Walensee. The first wooden refuge was built in 1903 — despite the skepticism of several section members toward the young sport of skiing, a winter shelter was set up to create, for the first time in Switzerland, accommodation intended for skiers. Central location at the foot of distinctive peaks (Spitzmeilen, Wissmeilen, Magerrain), surrounded by gentle slopes — an ideal starting point for ski touring, hiking and training. Capacity ~80 places, bright and welcoming atmosphere, regional cuisine. From the Maschgenkamm top station (Flumserberg ski area), a waymarked winter approach of 2-2.5 hours.
