Speargrass Hut

The place

DOC serviced-category hut with twelve bunks located at 1060 m in Nelson Lakes National Park, on the Speargrass Hut Track. Shared bunks with mattresses, wood stove, cold water from a rain-catchment tank, dry pit toilets. Insulated, double-glazed building. Rate NZ$25 adult and NZ$12.50 youth aged 5-17 per night, free below that age. Camping available (NZ$10 adult, NZ$5 youth). Distances: 3 h from the Mt Robert Road trailhead, 3 h to Angelus Hut, 5 h to Sabine Hut. Online booking, availability until 30 June 2027; same-day bookings accepted until 8 pm. Health risk: invasive lindavia algae in alpine lakes — dry all gear for 48 h before swimming or drawing water.
