South Ohau Hut

The place

Standard 10-bunk DOC hut in Tararua Forest Park (Wellington/Kapiti), at 361 m. Wood burner for heating. Access via a 16 km trail (8-9 hours' walk) from the end of Poads Road near Levin, following the Ohau River through the forest before branching off to South Ohau Hut via Gable End-Richards Knob. No booking required, payment by hut tickets or Backcountry Hut Pass in the honesty box (NZ$10/5 until 30 June 2026).
