South Branch Pond Bunkhouse
The place
Bunkhouse at the South Branch Pond Campground (Baxter State Park, Maine, USA), in the northwest corner of the park, in the valley between North Traveler Mountain and South Branch Mountain. The camp includes 12 lean-tos, 21 tent sites, and a bunkhouse for 8 people — a small group or family. Wilderness-style facility: bring your own stove and fuel, dishes and utensils, a means of purifying water, sleeping bags or mats. Bookings are required, up to 4 months in advance, by phone (207-723-5140), in person at Baxter SP headquarters in Millinocket, by mail, or online. A large, clear pond surrounded by 3,000 ft peaks offering remarkable views and access to a fine trail network.
