Shtëpia e Bjeshktarëve
Mountaineers' Lodge
The place
"House of the Mountaineers" (Shtëpia e Bjeshkëtarëve in Albanian) located at 1963 m in the Sharr massif (Šar Planina, Kosovo), above the Brezovica ski resort. Positioned on the northern slopes of the Sharr Mountains National Park, in a range stretching from southern Kosovo to north-western North Macedonia and north-eastern Albania, culminating at Titov Vrv (2747 m). A refuge used by hikers and volunteers from organizations such as GAIA Kosovo, which has run youth exchange programmes, European volunteering schemes and the BREfest festival in the Sharr since 2015. The Brezovica resort spans 1718 to 2522 m elevation — one of the most visited in Kosovo in winter. An alpine setting of beech woods, endemic Macedonian pine forests and high-altitude pastures favourable for observing the Balkan chamois (Rupicapra rupicapra balcanica).
