The place
A shelter cabin and grill on the Marienköpfchen (eastern Eifel, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany), accessible via an asphalted farm road from Oberzissen, passing by the Margarethenhof. At the high point, a magnificent view of the Brohltal towards the Siebengebirge and Burg Olbrück castle. Nearby: the very beautiful Rodder Maar (a lake of uncertain origin) and, a little further, the Königssee. Popular trails for hikers and horse riders; visitor car park. After the local Eifelverein branch dissolved in September 2017, the commune of Niederzissen took over management of this grill shelter. Renovated March-June 2017 (350 hours of work, more than €30,000 in funds).
