Schorndorfer Hütte
The place
Self-service hut of the DAV Schorndorf section (German Alpine Club), set at about 780 m amid the juniper heathlands (Wacholderheiden) on the edge of the Swabian Jura. Panoramic position near the hamlet of Degenfeld, in the Ostalbkreis, in the municipality of Schwäbisch Gmünd. The hut was acquired by the Schorndorf section of the DAV in 1952; in 1988 solar panels were installed for electricity. Capacity of 24 beds in two rooms, partly staffed and open only at weekends. Cooking facilities: wood/coal stove and electric cooker. The local Schwäbischer Albverein Schorndorf section maintains a network of around 100 km of trails in the area. Exceptional view over the Kalten Feld and the eastern arc of the Jura.
