The place
Winter bivouac of the Rifugio Schiazzera at 2107 m (DB 2129 m), in the upper Val Saiento (Valtellina, province of Sondrio, Lombardy). Born from a former Guardia di Finanza barracks. A stop on the through route of the "Sentiero della Valtellina" (no. 055 VS) between the Bivacco Pian del Lago and the Rifugio Malghera, then the Bivacco Alpe Piana before reaching the Rifugio Schiazzera. Alpine setting of upper Valtellina, a base for ski touring and summer mountaineering in the middle mountains.
