The place

Standard 6-bunk DOC backcountry hut in Tararua Forest Park (Wairarapa). Access: 3-4 h from Mangatarere Valley Road (expert route). The hut is reached via an unformed crossing of the Waiohine River (between Waiohine Gorge Roadend and Totara Flats Hut) — significant backcountry experience required.
