Sauabrehytta
The place
Self-service DNT hut located at 1080 m southeast of the Folgefonna glacier, in the municipality of Etne (Vestland, Norway), operated by Haugesund Turistforening. A remarkable position with fantastic views over the southern tip of the Folgefonna/Sauabreen, one of Norway's largest glaciers. An ideal starting point for glacier tours and the hut-to-hut traverse of Folgefonna National Park with Fonnabu, Holmaskjer and Breidablikk. Built in 2000, six beds, open year-round and unlocked; self-service provisions shop on site. Unmarked access: approach from Vintertun/Bergstø taking 4 to 6 hours depending on the starting point, a demanding graded route requiring experience and good outdoor knowledge. One of the wildest and most remote DNT huts in southwestern Norway.
