The place

A hillside refuge above Lake Trichonida, in Aetolia-Acarnania (western central Greece), managed by the Agrinio Alpine Club. The area — coordinates 38.61°N / 21.44°E — overlooks Lake Trichonida, the largest natural lake in Greece at 96.5 km², close to the Panaitoliko. The refuge sits higher up, at about 1100 m, reachable from the village of Peristeri in about 1 h 30 by a steep trail. 4x4 access is possible. A fine base for the hike to the Koka summit of the Panaitoliko (about 3 h from the refuge), considered one of the finest routes in the prefecture. The listing's location above the lake suggests a fishing shelter or lakeside walking refuge. For information on lodging and trails: contact the Agrinio Alpine Club.
