The place
Vindskydd (three-walled windbreak shelter) in the Olofström area, Blekinge county (southeastern Sweden), typical of the network of free shelters set up along the Skåneleden and Blekingeleden long-distance trails. Located at about 81 m altitude, on the wooded shores of the Halen lake complex, celebrated as "the southernmost of Sweden's wildernesses." Swedish vindskydd are three-walled shelters with an open hearth in front and a sloped roof — free to use under Swedish allemansrätt (the right of public access to nature). Nearby, listed shelters can be found at Myllevik (east shore of Halen, 2.9 km from the Halen campsite), Slagesnässjön before Kyrkhult, and Bredasjön 3 km east of Kyrkhult. Setting of mixed pine, beech, and birch forests, glacial lakes, and flora typical of southern Götaland.
