Sandvasshytta

The place

Self-service hut of Haugesund Turistforening (DNT) near Lake Sandvatnet, in the Etnefjellene at 825 m. Rebuilt in 2010 to replace an original building from the 1930s. Main building with 48 bunks and an annex, the "Sikringshytta", with 14 places (4 beds + 10 mattresses), for a total of 62 places. Locked, DNT key required. Wood stove, equipped kitchen, solar lighting, drying room, fishing, boat rental with life jackets provided. Open year-round. Of the 48 main beds, 28 can be pre-booked via the DNT system; drop-in is possible subject to availability, payment via the DNT app (stay and provisions). Free cancellation up to 5 days before arrival. Summer and winter access via the Markhus trail. Dog room outside only. Historic site: a Viking grave nearby, with signage at the hut.
