Sandodden
Ny Valdemarshaab
The place
Arctic hut located on the east coast of Greenland, in the Northeast Greenland National Park — the largest national park in the world and the 10th largest protected area on the planet, covering 972,000 km² (larger than Tanzania). Positioned in the immediate vicinity of the Daneborg military and research station, home base of the Sirius Patrol. The park has no permanent population, although 400 sites are used occasionally in summer. No commercial accommodation of any kind exists in the park: bivouacking is permitted, except at sites used by mammals and birds for breeding, resting or feeding. Emblematic wildlife: 5,000 to 15,000 muskoxen, polar bears and walruses frequent the coastal areas. The site is used mainly by scientific expeditions, the Sirius Patrol and the rare authorized polar expeditions.
