The place
Kota (day-use tipi-style shelter) on the edge of the Äkässaivo saivo, on the Saivonkierros nature trail (3 km) starting from Aakenuksentie (Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park, Lapland). Fireplace, dry toilets. 200 m from the trail leading toward Pallas. No overnight sleeping.
Getting there
Steps lead from the kota down to the saivo (a clear-water spring lake). The 3 km Saivonkierros loop passes the Seitapahta rock cliff and the Äkässaivo canyon. Managed by Metsähallitus.
The setting
Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park. Äkässaivo: a former Sámi place of worship, a boardwalk trail at the bottom of the saivo.
