Rugghubelhütte
The place
Staffed hut of the Swiss Alpine Club at 2,294 m near Engelberg (Obwalden). Eighty-five beds during the season, twelve places in the winter room. Open from Ascension Day until mid/late October. Welcomes mountaineers, hikers and families for mountaineering, climbing, ski touring and trekking. Lunch service without reservation, groups welcome by phone. Group programs (company outings, school trips in dormitory from CHF 39 per child half-board). Hut featured several times in the SRF TV series Hüttengeschichten.
Getting there
Access from Engelberg via the Ristis-Brunni cable car. The Bannalp-Rotgrätli trail is snow-covered until late June/early July.
The setting
Présentée par l'exploitant comme un lieu d'expérience pour alpinistes, randonneurs et familles, dans une ambiance de haute montagne, avec des activités pour tous niveaux (randonnée, escalade, ski de randonnée).
A bit of history
Cabane construite à l'origine comme pavillon en bois simple pour l'Exposition nationale suisse de 1883 à Zurich, puis démontée et reconstruite sur le site du Rugghubel. Reconstruite depuis en un grand bâtiment en pierre. Une conduite d'eau a été installée entre 1932 et 1947, et des sanitaires modernes en 1979. Plus de 125 000 nuitées enregistrées depuis sa création.
