Ruahine Hut

The place

DOC standard-category hut with eight bunks, located at 920 m in Ruahine Forest Park (Hawke's Bay), built in 1960. Facilities: wood burner, rainwater tank. Heavy rainfall in winter. Access is by ballot permit via Big Hill Station (private road): from the No Man's Road boundary, 5 km plus a short 4x4 section. Fee NZD 10 for adults and NZD 5 for youths aged 5-17 per night, free below that age, payable via standard tickets or the annual Backcountry Hut Pass. Map BK37, NZTM2000 E1885598, N5616054.
