Rocks Ahead Bivouac

The place

Basic DOC bivouac located at approximately 768 m in Kaweka Forest Park (Hawke's Bay), on the true right bank of the Ngaruroro River. Access from Rocks Ahead Hut on the opposite bank requires a flying fox crossing. Facilities: stream water, food cupboard, dry pit toilet. Free access, no charge. Distances: from Manson Hut 3 h 30, from Kiwi Mouth Hut 5 h 30 to 7 h, from Tira Lodge 1 h 30 to 2 h 30. Helipad 10 m from the bivouac and a second helipad near Rocks Ahead Hut. The flying fox crossing carries risks: familiarize yourself with how it works, ideally travel in a group or with a PLB beacon, never touch the main cable.
