The place

Basic 5-bunk DOC hut in Kahurangi National Park (Motueka area), at 243 m. Free. No DOC track: self-sufficient navigation (map, compass, GPS) essential. Access from Karamea Bend Hut via the Karamea Bend Hut to Crow River Track; after crossing the Leslie River, unmarked terrain following the Karamea riverbed upstream with multiple crossings. 7 h walk to the confluence of the Beautiful and Roaring Lion Rivers. Take precautions with crossings in flood, check NIWA flow data.
