The place
Basic 3-bunk DOC hut at 839 m in Kahurangi National Park (Nelson/Tasman, NZ). Built in 1926 by brothers Laurie and Fred Riordan for stock management, of native cedar and totara timber with split-batten cladding. Beech-timber annex added in the late 1940s. Restored in 2003. Free. Access: Killdevil car park (Uruwhenua Road) 4 h; Waingaro Forks Hut 3 h.
