The place

Capacity: 150 Spring opening (late March to early May). Summer opening (late May to late September). Winter shelter with 11 places. --> Exact dates updated on the refuge's website homepage. Refuge located in the Valnontey, in the Lauson alpine pasture, in the heart of the Gran Paradiso National Park, and situated on the Gran Paradiso and Grivola tour! From Valnontey: Note that Valnontey's parking lots have become paid in recent years, the prices are very reasonable (€4 a day in 2020); however, if you want to avoid this cost, you'll find free parking in Cogne, which lengthens the walk with a pleasant shaded path following the left bank of the stream through Buthier (or you can take the free shuttle between Cogne and Valnontey). If you're staying at one of the campsites in Valnontey, the vehicle will of course stay at the campsite (cost included in the campsite fee). From Valnontey, you cross to the left bank of the stream via the bridge and follow path N°18 (or Alta Via 2), wide and well maintained through a beautiful larch forest heading toward the refuge. You'll cross the stream twice before reaching the wide plateau where the refuge is located, still on a comfortable path.
