The place
Major staffed refuge at 2735 m in the Gran Paradiso National Park, in Valsavarenche (Aosta Valley, Italy). Managed by CAI Torino, a classic base for the ascent of the Gran Paradiso (4061 m). Capacity for 120 in rooms of 4 to 5 bunk beds and dormitories, mattresses, blankets and pillowcases provided. 2026 seasons: spring from 26 March to 3 May, summer from 21 May to 13 September. Facilities: two dining rooms totalling over 100 seats, wood-panelled room with panoramic bay windows, large outdoor terrace, real-time webcams and weather station. Getting there
Itinéraire principal depuis Pont (Valsavarenche), point de départ à environ 1960 m d'altitude. Après avoir traversé le torrent Savara, sentier plat le long du cours d'eau jusqu'au refuge Tetra Lyre, puis montée par de nombreux virages à travers une belle forêt de mélèzes. Passage par les ruines de Chanté (2370 m) offrant une vue sur le Gran Paradiso, puis la « bella mulattiera reale » jusqu'au refuge (2735 m). Dénivelé positif d'environ 770-780 m. Durée : 2h30 à 3h de marche. Difficulté : E (randonnée), sentier large et bien balisé.

Refuge historique du CAI Turin situé à 2735 m d'altitude à Valsavarenche (Vallée d'Aoste), au cœur du Parc National du Grand Paradis. Il constitue la base principale pour l'ascension du Grand Paradis (Gran Paradiso), sommet culminant à 4061 m qui attire une clientèle internationale d'alpinistes et de skieurs de randonnée.
