Rifugio Timparossa
The place
Refuge of Etna Park located on the northern flank of the volcano, famous for the surrounding beech forest that turns spectacular shades of red in autumn. A magical spot drawing dozens of hikers and photographers every year. Small all-wood building, recently restored, fitted with a wood-burning stove; a well nearby provides water year-round, plus an outdoor stone oven and barbecue area. Access from Piano Provenzana (1800 m), about 1 h 30 walk along the Central Craters road, a short, easy route with +200 m elevation gain, crossing desolate landscapes amid the 2002 lava flows. A stage on the Etna Nord route from Linguaglossa to the Pizzi Deneri Observatory (2800 m).
