The place

Rifugio Tassera in the Verzasca Valley, canton of Ticino (Switzerland), at 1374 m elevation, in the Ticino pre-Alps. Part of the continuous Ticino cluster (batches 240-257). A traditional alpine-pasture refuge in the valley famed for its turquoise waters (the 1995 Bond film "GoldenEye" location) and its humpback bridges (Ponte dei Salti). Area of chestnut, larch and subalpine grassland, home to the heritage of the grotti (traditional wine and cheese cellars) and 19th-century Ticino emigration to California.
