The place
Free hut in the Monti Peloritani, in the Rometta area (province of Messina, Sicily, Italy) — not the Madonie as the place name might suggest. Located near the Puntale Saitta summit and Monte Ferrà; the Santuario di Dinnammare is 2 km northeast of the refuge. Two main trails lead there; the best known is the Dinnammare - Puntale Bandiera - Portella Vento - Portella Armacera route. The longest is Dinnammare - Torrente S. Pietro - Rifugio Portella del Vento, ~13.7 km / 688 m ascent. Breathtaking view of the Tyrrhenian Sea from the refuge.
