The place
Refuge known as Pietracannone on Mount Etna (province of Catania, Sicily, Italy) — not Calabria's Sila as one might assume. Strategic position for outings to Monte Fontane, Pietracannone and Cubanìa, from where, with a bit of practice, you can reach the Rifugio Citelli on foot then the Monti Sartorius and the Grotta di Serracozzo. Designed as one of the base points for mountaineering on the volcano. Now completely wrecked by vandals due to its proximity to the road; the trail is barely visible for lack of maintenance.
