The place
Refuge at 2398 m (register 2378 m) above Pian San Giacomo, in Mesolcina (canton of Graubünden, SWITZERLAND — not Italy as one might assume for a "Rifugio"). Support point on the Sentiero Alpino Calanca. Two "Toblerone"-shaped bivouacs on the panoramic Pian Grand terrace, catching the morning sun with a scenic view towards Pian San Giacomo. 18 beds in total, gas cooker, dishes, woollen blankets and mattresses. Running water 100 m west of the refuge. Access from San Bernardino in ~3h30 (via Alp d'Ocola and Alp d'Arbeola); from Valbella via Trescolmen and Pass dela Bedoleta in ~5h30.
