Rifugio Monte Serrone
The place
Refuge on Monte Serrone (1371 m), a peak in the Abruzzo Apennines within the territory of Gioia dei Marsi (province of L'Aquila, Abruzzo), near the southeastern edge of the Piana del Fucino and the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park. DB 1296 m. Access via a trail from Gioia dei Marsi crossing the Capo d'Acqua valley (1218 m). The massif belongs to a fault system that caused the devastating 1915 Marsica earthquake, and is listed among Italy's geosites. Views from the summit over the Monti Marsicani and the ABLM National Park; on the Sperone side, a panorama over the Fucino plain. A destination for hikers and mountain bikers.
