The place

Refuge at 1747 m at the foot of the north side of the Scrimacavallo ridge, in the "Prato della Maielletta" area, municipality of Caramanico Terme (Abruzzo), within the Majella National Park. Single-storey building, unstaffed but always open. Two rooms, one of which is always open and fitted with a fireplace, tables and benches. About 25 minutes' walk along the Spirito trail, the Fonte Centiata provides drinking water. Also known as "Stazzo di Caramanico," it was once a gathering place for the shepherds of this mountain. Access via trail B1 from the Maielletta area or from the Decontra area of Caramanico Terme; or from the Spirito trail at the Piana Grande junction (on the right). Stage 2 of a crossing of the Majella from Caramanico Terme.
