Rifugio Malghera

The place

Capacity: 90. Facilities meeting current standards -Running water -Showers -Half-board rate in 2013: €35 to €40 -staffed period: from early June to early October -winter shelter with 3 places and mattresses. Same as [->4139] as far as the hamlet of Fusino (same recommendations about cars) at 1200 m altitude. The rest is (was?) done on foot, heading towards the western branch of the Val Grosina, followed by a path that seems to have widened along with the refuge. You can't go wrong, barring proven inebriation. Allow 4 h from Fusino (11 km), less if motorised access is permitted (I never experienced that...). Built at the top of an alpine pasture hamlet by and dependent on a local association (Fabbriceria del Santuario), it originally (a good 50 years ago) had 13 places and was locked, the key being held at the time by the parish priest of Grosio... Enlarged and modernised many times over, it ended up being transformed beyond recognition (not the priest, the refuge...).
