Rifugio Giacomini

The place
Refuge at 1710 m on the southern slope of Mount Etna (province of Catania, Sicily, Italy), within the Etna Park (UNESCO site). A free wilderness hut typical of the Park's network of forest shelters. Not to be confused with the Rifugio Giovanni Giacomini at Forca di Presta (Sibillini, ~1580 m, Arquata del Tronto), built in 1973 by the ANA and closed since the central Italy earthquake pending restoration. A stop for hikers exploring the volcano's southern summit area, in a mineral landscape of lava flows and Corsican pines.
