The place
Forest refuge at 593 m (external sources; DB: 581 m) in the municipality of Genga, in the Gola della Rossa and Frasassi Regional Park (Marche, Italy). Unstaffed but well maintained (sometimes called Rifugio dei Fiori, formerly Rifugio Forestale). Typical CAI loop of 5.2 km with ~290 m of elevation gain, 2h-2h30, entirely through forest, with views over the Frasassi area, picnic spots with fountains and toilets. A good spot to observe birds of prey (golden eagle, falcons) nesting in the limestone walls of the gorges. On the "Sentiero dell'Aquila" route Pierosara - Rosenga - Rifugio Ginguno.
