The place

Sleeping places: 30. Places on mattress: 30. Latrines are outside the main building. -dishes -tables, benches -keys must be collected -upstairs dormitories with bunk beds, mattresses, blankets, pillows. The refuge is accessible in full from June to September, while in winter only a small winter room is available. If you want fresh products (milk, butter, cheese), you should have no trouble knocking on the door of the active alpine farms present in the area, but no guarantees today. The refuge is the only support point on the standard route to Cima Piazzi via the south face (1400 m elevation gain), best tackled early season with snow in the couloirs and cold weather. Go up the eastern branch of the Val Grosina to Eita. The road wasn't paved in the '70s... It must have been since, at least as far as Eita (watch for summer traffic restrictions, check access at [->4139]), after which it becomes a track off-limits to non-residents, following the right bank of the torrent. There remain 300 m of elevation gain; halfway to the Col de Verva, a footbridge crosses to the opposite bank where the refuge stands, up high, seeming to emerge from the surrounding firs.
