The place
Staffed Italian hut located at 2802 m altitude on the Oriondé shoulder, at the foot of the southern face of the Matterhorn, in Valtournenche (Aosta Valley, Pennine Alps). Built and inaugurated in 1929 in the presence of the Duke of the Abruzzi, by its creator Amato Maquignaz of Valtournenche. 28 beds in staffed season, 20 in free access. Classic base for climbing the Matterhorn via the Lion Ridge.
