Rifugio Dondena
The place
Rifugio Dondena at 2186 m (external sources; DB shows 2110 m) in Champorcher, in the Aosta Valley (Italy). A former royal hunting lodge, beautifully set in the green Dondena basin, bordering the Mont Avic Natural Park and the Gran Paradiso National Park. Easy access in summer (15 min walk from the car park); in winter, off-piste on skis, about 1h30 on foot or snowshoes. Ground floor: bar, dining room, lounge, large outdoor area. Upstairs: 10 rooms with private bathrooms. Meals from mid-June to mid-September (12:30-3pm and 7-9pm), home cooking, 100 seats indoors and 100 on the terrace.
