Rifugio del Pelosello
The place
Rifugio dell'Ovile del Pelosello, situated between 1650 and 1675 m on Monte Genzana, at the heart of the Monte Genzana Alto Gizio Regional Nature Reserve (Abruzzo, Italy). The 3,000-hectare reserve protects wooded valleys descending toward Pettorano sul Gizio and vast summit meadows. Access from km 123.800 of the SS 17, near the Valle Gentile, about 1 h 30 through the Pelosello woods along CAI trail 8. A well-restored building, always open, fitted with a table, a few benches and a working fireplace. Rich wildlife setting: deer, roe deer are very abundant, wolves; the Marsican brown bear has been spotted on several occasions. A very popular snowshoeing route in winter, in a wild and unspoiled setting.

From SS 17 km 123.800 (Valle Gentile), CAI trail 8 through the Pelosello woods (~1 h 30).
